Collection: Komuna Variable
A fixed-width dot-matrix typeface with an unconventional origin. It resembles obsolete printing technology, but it’s more than a mere reconstruction of a bygone aesthetic. It was created as a solution to a real problem. In 2023, Jan Estrada-Osmycki was commissioned by Komuna Warszawa to create a large inscription, over 30 meters long, on a corrugated sheet metal fence. He built a custom oversized marker, using the fence’s corrugation as a grid. The physical dimensions of the fence kept the capitals and ascenders low, resulting in a compressed character set.
